About

Hi, I’m Erik Kamaletdinov - a contemporary artist and art teacher based in Scheveningen, The Hague. I’m 31 years old and have a multicultural background: I was born in Kazakhstan, grew up between Greece, China, and the Netherlands, I speak several languages, and have been living in The Netherlands since 2008.

As a teenager, art was taught so dryly that I never once imagined I could become an artist. Only in my early twenties did I realize this was possible, and since then, art has become the center of my life. That experience motivates me deeply: I want young people to experience art in a way that feels meaningful, exciting, and real — not just as an assignment, but as something that can open doors.

I studied Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, graduating in 2020, and for the past six years I’ve worked with Art-S-Cool and other organizations in The Hague as an art teacher for children, teenagers, and even adults. I’m now taking steps towards starting my own classes, because over the years I’ve developed strong convictions about the way art should be taught.

For me, art education is about curiosity and freedom. It’s not about perfect results, but about experimenting, making choices, and finding your own voice. My students explore many materials and approaches, with plenty of room for independence and play. With years of experience as a practicing artist in The Hague’s contemporary art scene, I know the world of exhibitions, museums, and fellow artists firsthand — and I use that knowledge to guide young people not just in making art, but in understanding what it means to live as an artist today.

Whether it’s a 7-year-old discovering the joy of paint for the first time, or a 17-year-old building a portfolio to apply to an art academy, my goal is always the same: to guide them in finding confidence, excitement, and meaning in their creative process.
